Tuff Gong
Born
in Nine Mile, Jamaica, in 1945, Robert Nesta "Tuff Gong" Marley went on
to become the 1st son of Reggae music as we know it today. Deeply
spiritual and regarded by many as a prophet of the Rastafari movement,
his music knows no bounds, evolving as a social force with a cross over
appeal that has rarely been seen in any genre of music. Tragically, on
the 11th of May, 1981, his life was cut short by cancer. He was buried
in a chapel near his birth place along with the five possesions he held
closest to his heart; his Gibson Les Paul(a solid body guitar), a
football, a cannabis bud, a ring given to him by prince Asfaw Wossen of
Ethiopa(the eldest son of Haile Selassie I) and a Bible. On the 21st of
May, 1981, the whole of Jamaica turned out to his state funeral, but
despite his untimely parting at just 36 years old, the Legend who gave
the World universal & timeless classics, remains as popular as ever.
